In 2007/08 an estimated 442 000 individuals in Britain, who worked in the last year, believed that they were experiencing work-related stress at a level that was making them ill, according to the Labour Force Survey (LFS) (HSE).
Estimates from the LFS indicate that self-reported work-related stress, depression or
anxiety accounted for an estimated 13.5 million lost working days in Britain in 2007/08.
Prolonged or intense stress can lead to depression, heart disease, back pain, gastrointestinal disturbances, anxiety, insomnia, fatigue, panic attacks, infertility, dizziness and the list goes on.
Stress in a moderate level is a good thing as it gives us a sense of urgency and responsibility however if stress takes a grip of you it can be far from constructive and will work away at your life, relationships and your health.
Another term for stress is anxiety which in real terms is actually FEAR and I doubt many top business people would admit or even allow themselves to be ruled by fear so why then, do we allow ourselves to be taken over by stress?
